Will You Wait?
Looking back, I can now thank God for the times I was prompted to wait on Him. During different seasons of my life, it seemed like God was slow to respond to my prayers and urgent requests. This actually wasn’t the case at all! I soon came to understand that the Lord was saying “Trust Me”.
I learned through scripture that His Children are called to “wait upon the Lord”. When we wait in the posture of obedience through patience, we will reap the benefits of His awesome promises and rich blessings.
“The Lord is good to those who wait [confidently] for Him, To those who seek Him [on the authority of God’s word].” -(Lamentations 3:25 AMP)
We may never be able to understand why the Lord may require us to wait on Him but here are some examples of why He may be prompting you to wait:
Our Father is trying to teach us to have confidence in Him- In our waiting, trust is being developed. Through trust faith is established. “ faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen.’’ Trust and faith partner together to give birth to those unseen things that you hope for when you go to God in prayer. At times the Lord will delay the immediate fulfillment of our request as a tool to stretch your faith or withhold a blessing to protect us from unforeseen danger. The Lord wants to give us His best, wait confidently so you will experience His divine goodness.
God is positioning us to be a solution- Much like King David's humble beginnings as a shepherd boy tending to his Father's sheep- He too had to wait on the Lord even though he had been anointed and was promised to be king. In his waiting David faced battles with lions and bears for his father's sheep to prepare Him for his God led assignment to be a solution to God’s sheep (Israel) and fight the uncircumcised philistine Goliath. If David had not waited on The Lord he would have missed his public announcement and promotion as king.
God wants to bless you- Many times waiting is to prepare you for His Blessings. We may need development in our spiritual maturity-cultivation of skills or deeper knowledge, wisdom and insight to walk in God's plans.
Testimony Time
I remember some years ago I was believing God to bless me with a new car. I had been praying for sometime but had seen no answer to my prayers. Eventually God opened the door to bless me above what I even asked BUT guess what? I had to wait. After 6 years, my prayer had become tangable. Many can argue and say, “ you must not have been praying right” or “ The Lord must not have heard you. That wasn’t it at all! I knew the Lord had heard my prayer from the first day I prayed. The Father revealed to me some years later why He withheld my blessing. He told me it was to protect me.
At that time of my asking, the company that I worked for was downsizing and many were laid- off, including myself. God was sparing me from disappointment, shame and humiliation.
This experience expanded me in the area of patience- not to run ahead of God. The Lord truly knows what's best in all situations. He wants to actively be a part of our lives, even in our decision making.Waiting isn’t easy, running ahead of God will forfeit His best plan for you. When we run ahead of the Lord we are sure to encounter dissatisfaction and have to live with the consequences. God is so patient with us, wait on Him, His best is on the way.
